Classic Fly-in Kalahari Wilderness Experience
On your 3 day Classic Kalahari Plains Safari in Botswana you will be located in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, one of Africa’s largest protected areas. This wildlife reserve was once set aside for the Bushmen so that they could continue with their traditional way of life. More and more travellers seeking a truly remote safari in Africa are choosing this region for a Botswana holiday.
You will be surprised at the landscape which although called a desert, is characterised by rolling, grassy dunes and valleys that burst into life after the rains. The wildlife of the Central Kalahari has adapted to live and thrive in an area where there is little surface water. It is a fascinating region and one you will never forget.
Game viewing in this desert wilderness is possible all year round due to the diversity of habitats. This region is home to abundant wildlife where vast herds of antelope are closely followed by a range of predators including the impressive Black-maned Kalahari Lion and Cheetah.
Day 1: Johannesburg – Maun – Central Kalahari
Your Kalahari Plains Safari begins! From Johannesburg you will take a scheduled flight in the morning to Maun Airport in Botswana. From Maun you will connect onto a light aircraft flight to take you to the Central Kalahari. You will be met and transferred to your bush camp for the next 2 nights, which is situated overlooking an immense pan.
You will be welcomed and have some time to refresh and relax. Following afternoon tea, your guide will take you on a game viewing activity. Later, you can enjoy a spectacular sunset and sit down to an African inspired dinner around the camp fire.
Day 2: Central Kalahari
The best game viewing takes place in the cooler times of the day. After an early morning wake-up call with tea or coffee and a snack, you will set off with your guide on an activity. Your experienced guide will show you this incredibly diverse area on game drives and walks so that you can appreciate the ecology and unique relationships that exist in this environment. Interpretive Bushman Walks, accompanied by descendants of this ancient race, are also offered.
Healthy game populations are present all year round, but when the summer rains start in November, this desert region really comes to life. Animals such as Springbok, Gemsbok, Wildebeest and Hartebeest are attracted to the nutritious grasses that spring up in the pan systems and fossil riverbeds. Of course with all this natural bounty the predators are never far away. This wilderness is one of the best areas for viewing Cheetah in Southern Africa.
After the morning activity, you return to the bush camp for breakfast. During the heat of the day you can relax at the pool and deck area. Alternately, you can retreat to your tented accommodation which is raised off the ground to catch the breeze and give you great views over the Kalahari. Later in the day, your afternoon activity sets off for another safari adventure. Relax with a drink as the sun sets and enjoy your last dinner under these brilliant night skies.
Day 3: Central Kalahari – Maun – Johannesburg
This is the final day of your Classic Kalahari Wilderness Package. There will be time for an early morning game drive and breakfast before you say your goodbyes.
You will be transferred to the airstrip for the flight back to Maun, arriving in time for your connecting flight onward to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport.
Classic Fly-Kalahari Wilderness Package
This 3 day Classic Fly-in Kalahari Wilderness Package includes scheduled flights ex/to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport. The rate is calculated per person sharing a room. The Rates are based on the high season, which runs from November to June during the green season, and may vary depending on the season and daily currency exchange rate. This Botswana package can be also combined with a stay at the Okavango Delta, Linyanti and Chobe National Park.
